HOUSES: Willoughby House

The denial of the language of an existing building is a modernist deceit. A conservation option which enables an existing building, such as this Arts and Crafts bungalow, to be interpreted and 'returned', creates an addition which is contemporary yet acknowledges the original house in a conservation area. Planning and orientation problems were overcome by splitting the functions in two (front and back) and by the insertion of the kitchen in the centre.
