This holiday house was designed for a professional couple with adult children who were seeking a lightweight, airy building which would weather over time. The unique design addressed the constraints of the long narrow site separated from the beach by a street. The two main pavilions face into the north facing outdoor space, whilst the upper floor bedrooms give views of the beach. A screening device in the form of an indoor/outdoor dining room provides privacy for the outdoor space and contributes to the overall translucency of the building.
"...to smell the wood, take off your shoes, look through the glass louvres and screens to the trees and sea - your city self is gone - it's like being in a tree house - its fantastic. We love it as much in the winter as in the summer."
